Nestled in the heart of Tacoma, Flipping Out Burgers & Fries serves up a mouthwatering homage to classic American burger culture, offering an inviting dive into a menu packed with flavorful, thoughtfully crafted burgers and an array of crave-worthy sides. This hamburger restaurant is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience satisfying comfort food elevated with generous flavors and a nostalgic vibe.

As soon as you step inside, you’re greeted by an atmosphere that strikes a nostalgic chord—simple, no-frills, and entirely focused on what matters most: the quality and taste of the food. The décor respects burger joint traditions, giving diners a cozy, casual setting where the spotlight truly belongs to the plates arriving at the table.

The menu at Flipping Out Burgers & Fries is a celebration of bold flavors and hearty portions, offering a variety of burgers named with a playful nod to iconic characters and phrases. Among the standout creations, the Chuck Norris Burger lives up to its tough reputation, boasting a juicy, perfectly seared patty served with fresh, vibrant toppings that dance on your palate. The Tom Thumb Burger and the John Wayne Burger with Lettuce add thoughtful variety, catering to diverse tastes without compromising that signature freshness.

For burger lovers who crave layers of flavor, the Chili Cheeseburger and the Blue Cheese Bacon Burger are tantalizing choices. These highlight a rich, meaty core enhanced by creamy and spicy accents, bringing a harmonious balance between robust and savory notes. The Swiss Mushroom Burger and the Mushroom Swiss Burger and Fries offer earthier umami tones, topped with tender mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese that melt seamlessly into the juicy patties.

What makes the experience at Flipping Out even more enticing is their dedication to perfectly cooked, fresh ingredients and the artful sear on their beef patties, as noted by enthusiast David Goodson, who praises their grind and flavor quality as surpassing well-known chains. Each burger arrives hot and robust, ensuring every bite is as satisfying as the first.

The sides are far from mere afterthoughts. Fans of crispy, golden goodness will find joy in their tantalizing selection of fries and tots — Waffle Fries, Tater Tots, and the enticing Chili Cheese Tots create the perfect crispy companions. For those seeking something a little different, the Fish N Chips with crunchy breaded cod and the coconut-battered Shrimp Basket deliver a fresh seafood twist that complements the hearty burger lineup beautifully.

Don’t miss the milkshakes, which are rich, creamy, and thick enough to satisfy your sweetest cravings. Whether you lean into classic flavors like Chocolate, Rootbeer, or venture towards playful options like Peanut Butter or Blackberry, each sip provides a velvety counterpoint to the savory feast.

Customer testimonials reflect a consistent appreciation for the fresh, high-quality ingredients, rapid and friendly service, and the fair pricing that keeps this spot popular among families and casual diners alike. While the dining space is cozy and may feel a bit intimate for larger groups or first dates, it perfectly suits those craving a genuine, flavor-driven meal without pretense.

Let's start this review with a simple 'you gotta love this place, and I really mean it.' My wife and I have been wanting to go here and tonight we finally got the opportunity. When you walk inside you'll notice the nostalgic feel and when you see the menu, you will definitely know that it's more about the food than the atmosphere!. Every burger is dedicated to an iconic phrase, or even an action hero, but you really need to pay attention to the awesome prices as well. I ordered the six (6) piece shrimp basket with fries and my wife got her go-to ' chicken tenders with sweet potato fries ' < literally anywhere she goes. Now look. People will tell you that food like that is so basic and you can find it just about anywhere, but you would be wrong. Food is different by how it's prepared, cooked and by who is in front of that grill, and I got the opportunity to meet the owner (Michael), of Flipping Out Burgers and he truly makes it worth eating here. Almost every place similar to Flipping Out you'll find that they will throw a frozen patty on the grill, not here!. They blend and grind their own beef for the burgers and I know this because the owner actually showed me!. I'm not trying to church anything up at all, I'm giving you an unadulterated opinion of a great laid back, chill kind of place you should check out. Side note: the Coconut Shrimp are 100% legit good.

Great burgers. Better than 5 guys and cheaper. Shake was thick and rich. They grind their beef and the flavor comes through. Also put a good sear on the burger. Owner on site so quality is high. The atmosphere is ok but not a spot to take someone on a 1st date.

We checked out Flipping Out Burgers & Fries for the first time, after antique shopping and it definitely delivered. The food is so yummy, and everything is decently priced for what you get. It's a great spot for families. Plus, the staff were all super friendly, which always makes a difference. The dining space is a bit small and if you have a big group I wouldn’t recommend. Overall, it's a solid, quality place for a great burger fix. Definitely coming back the next time we are in Tacoma.

Very good burger. I got a double bacon cheese with everything on it. Very very tasty. One small complaint is it seemed to be a bit over salted. Not enough to ruin the burger, but I think a little less would’ve gone a long way. The bun was nothing special, but it held together well throughout the burger. The toppings were fresh and the fried onions were excellent. Service was fast and friendly.

The food was hot and fresh and the service was great! The cheeseburger was really good but the grilled onions made the top bun kinda soggy even though I ate it right away. The chili cheese fries were also quite delicious.

Best burgers in town! We came in from Idaho and wanted something good and local. We had a cheese burger with onion rings, bacon and blue burger with waffle fries, chicken tenders, mushroom Swiss burgers and sweet potato fries, and a John Wayne burger. All the fries were so crispy and creamy in the middle. All of us loved the food and ate about everything. Owner was so kid and helpful. We will definitely be back. Thank you!!

Stopped by for lunch and had a good experience. The service was friendly, and the staff was attentive. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I went with a regular burger and tater tots…pretty good, but I’d definitely recommend the fries over the tots. Overall, it’s worth a stop if you’re looking for a casual bite.
